The "German Wine Fund" was founded in 1961 as an institution under public law. The facility was located together with the DWI (German Wine Institute) the "House of German Wine" in Mainz, In Aril 2016, both moved into an office building in the community of Bodenheim, which is directly adjacent to Mainz, whereby the address was specifically changed to "Platz des Weines 2". DWF and DWI are self-help organizations of the German wine industry to promote the quality and sales of German wines through joint, competition-neutral marketing measures at home and abroad. Furthermore, protection is to be achieved at home and abroad by legislation for specified names of domestic wines. The DWF is under the legal supervision of the Federal Ministry of Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture and uses various facilities in the wine industry to perform its tasks. These are the DWI and the German Wine Academy, Financing is based on contributions from the wine industry through a compulsory levy from German producers (according to vineyards ) and des Weinhandels (according to purchase quantity). The board of the DWF is also the managing director of the DWI. See also under Wine-producing institutions,
