The "German Wine Fund" was founded in 1961 as a public law institution. Seat of the institution was together with the DWI (German Wine Institute) the "House of German Wine" in Mainz, In Aril 2016, both moved into an office building in the municipality of Bodenheim, directly adjacent to Mainz, whereby the address was changed to "Platz des Weines 2". DWF and DWI are self-help institutions of the German wine industry to promote the quality and sales of German wines through joint competition-neutral marketing measures at home and abroad. In addition, domestic and international protection should be achieved by legislation for specified designations of domestic wines. The DWF is under the legal supervision of the Federal Ministry of Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture and serves to fulfill its tasks of various institutions of the wine industry. These are the DWI and the German Wine Academy, The financing comes from contributions of the wine industry by a compulsory levy of the German producer enterprises (after vineyards ) and the Weinhandels (according to purchase quantity). The board of the DWF is also the managing director of the DWI. See also below Wine-producing institutions,
