DWF

The "German Wine Fund" was founded in 1961 as an institution under public law. Together with the DWI (German Wine Institute), the institution was based in the "Haus des Deutschen Weines" in Mainz. In Aril 2016, both moved into an office building in Bodenheim, a community directly adjacent to Mainz, and the address was specifically changed to "Platz des Weines 2". DWF and DWI are self-help institutions of the German wine industry to promote the quality and sales of German wines through joint competition-neutral marketing measures at home and abroad. In addition, legal provisions for defined designations of domestic wines are intended to achieve protection at home and abroad. The DWF is under the legal supervision of the Federal Ministry of Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture and uses various institutions of the wine industry to fulfil its tasks. These are the DWI and the German Wine Academy. It is financed by contributions from the wine industry through a compulsory levy on German producers (by area under vines) and the wine trade (by volume purchased). The DWF Board of Directors is also the managing director of the DWI. See also under Viticulture Institutions.
