Early Muscat

The white grape variety is a new cross-breed between Muscat d'Hamburg x Szölöskertek Királynöje (Queen of the Vineyards), which was confirmed by DNA analyses carried out in 2010. Synonyms are California K 4-19, Erli Muskat, Early Muskat and Muskat Rani Bijeli. The cross was made in 1943 by Dr. Harold P. Olmo (1909-2006) at the University of California at Davis. Plant variety protection was granted in 1958. The early ripening vine produces white wines with aromas of peaches and oranges and a subtle muscat tone. In California it is used exclusively as table grape, in Oregon it is also used to make wine. However, it is cultivated in many countries. Early Muscat is also permitted as a grape variety in Austria, but no stocks are designated.
