The winery "Ébano Viñedos y Bodegas" is located in Gumiel de Mercado (next to Burgos) in the DO area Ribera del Duero in the Spanish region Castilla y León. In 2001 José Carlos Gómez bought the Bodega "Blanca de Castilla". The Valmiñor winery in the Rías Baixas DO area also belongs to him. The new owner completely reoriented the winery, the first own wine was the 2003 vintage, and the vineyards are located about ten kilometres from the winery in Quintana del Pidio. Only Tinta del País(Tempranillo) is cultivated, with young plants as well as vineyards with vines more than forty years old. The two red wines "Ébano seis" (a semicrianza, span. seis = six, which refers to the six-month maturing period) and "Ébano Crianza" are produced, which are aged in French barriques. Around 70,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
