The winery is located in the municipality of Mautern in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wachau. A guesthouse is attached. The winery is managed by Andreas Eder. The vineyards cover a total of 13 hectares of vineyards in the Raubern, Silberbichl and Süssenberg vineyards on the south bank of the Danube. They are planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Roter Traminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Muskat-Ottonel. The vineyards are cultivated in a near-natural way with extensive care and no insecticides. The selective hand harvest takes place in at least two or often more rounds in each plot and lasts up to eight weeks into November. Only fully ripe and healthy grapes are processed.
After gentle pressing and must clarification by gravity, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by ageing with long storage on the fine le es for some wines (Steinfeder and Federspiel until March/April, Smaragd until over summer). The product range includes various wines marketed under the regional brands Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd according to the guidelines of the Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus association. The premium wines of the house are Grüner Veltliner Federspiel and Grüner Veltliner Süssenberg Smaragd. Some of the wines are also bottled in magnum bottles (1.5 and 3 l). Noble brandies (apricot, Traminer and Muskat Ottonel marc ) are also produced.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
