Ederena

The red grape variety (also Édéréna) is a new variety between Merlot x Abouriou. It was crossed in France in 1952 by the Basque breeder Pierre Marcel Durquéty (1923-2016) on behalf of the INRA in collaboration with the University of Montpellier. The medium-maturing vine produces light red wines with light herbal aromas. It is grown on less than one hectare in France and on 0.1 hectares in the Swiss canton of Vaud by a producer. In 2016, a stock of slightly more than one hectare was reported (statistics Kym Anderson). In California, the University of California in the San Joaquin Valley and the wine multinational Gallo are conducting an experimental cultivation.
