The Ehrhart winery is located on the northern outskirts of Eschbach (Südliche Weinstraße area) in the German wine-growing region of
Pfalz. The winery is run in the second and third generation by Reinhold, Ute and Benjamin Ehrhart. The vineyards cover 11 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Hasen (Eschbach), Rittersberg (Ilbesheim) and
Sonnenberg (Leinsweiler). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling (lead variety), Pinot Noir, White Burgundy and Sauvignon Blanc.
The vineyards are cultivated in a natural way with
cover crop (instead of mineral fertilisers) and without
insecticides in order to protect the
beneficial inse cts. At the moment, we are in the process of converting to
organic viticulture. Quality-enhancing measures in summer include careful foliage care with
defoliation and removal of shoots. The yield-reduced grapes are selectively harvested when
physiologically ripe and only healthy and fully ripe grapes are processed. The four-level quality pyramid is divided into site wines, *** wines, ** wines and estate wines.
The white wines are partly temperature-controlled in steel tanks and
spontaneously fermented and matured in wooden barrels or barriques. The red wines mature in large wooden barrels or in barrique after the traditional mash fermentation. Bottle-fermented sparkling wine and Secco (sparkling wine) are also produced. During the ageing process, the greatest possible care is taken, no additives are used and the wine is then bottled, sometimes even without
filtration. The winery is a member of the Generation Riesling association.
