The in Heidelberg German living Gerhard Eichelmann brings the annual wine guide "Eichelmann Germany's Wines" out. After a successful international career as a management consultant, he founded the independent wine magazine "Mondo" and the publishing house "Mondo Heidelberg" in 1997. The best German wine producers and their wines are presented in the wine guide. The 2006 edition includes 936 wineries with 9,390 wines. Each winery as a whole and its wines are rated in the order of sparkling wines, white wines, rosés and white autumns as well as red wines. The basis of the winery assessment is the overall performance of the producer in the past three years. 5 stars (world class, top international producers), 4 stars (excellent), 3 stars (very good), two stars (good) and 1 star (above average, reliable) are awarded.
Every producer is also described with history, general information such as vineyards and verbal assessment and news. The wine descriptions are based on the criteria of impression in the bouquet and impression in the mouth. The wine review takes place according to the international 100-point system. The rating scale goes from average (75 to 79), good (80 to 84), very good (85 to 89), 90 to 94 (excellent) to great, world class (95 to 100).
