Eona

The white grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Lady Washington (Concord x Allen's Hybrid) x Beta (Carver x Concord). It contains genes from Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia and Vitis vinifera(Chasselas). The hybrid was crossed in 1925 by the breeder Niels Ebbesen Hansen (1866-1950) in South-Dakota. The early-ripening, frost-hardy vine yields a floral white wine. It is cultivated in Quebec (Canada) and used as a winepress and table grape as well as the production of grape juice. In 2016, two hectares of vineyard were designated (Kym Anderson).
