DOC area for white wine and red wine in the Italian region of Marche. The zone, named after the river of the same name, covers the entire province of Ancona, as well as the municipalities of Apiro, Camerino, Castelraimondo, Cingoli, Esanatoglia, Gagliole, Matelica and Pioraco in the province of Macerata. However, only scht hectares are used. The Bianco (also known as Frizzante) is produced from Verdicchio Bianco (max. 50%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 50%). The Rosso (also known as Novello) is produced from Sangiovese and/or Montepulciano (max. 60%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 40%).
