The winery "René Favre & Fils SA" in the small municipality of Saint-Pierre-de-Clages in the canton of Valais is located in French-speaking Switzerland. It is run by the brothers Mike and Jean-Charles Favre. Mike is General Secretary of the International Union of Oenologists and President of the Mondial du Pinot Noir Fair. The vineyards cover 13 hectares of vines with 78 plots. The autochthonous varieties are cultivated in particular, above all Arvine, as well as Humagne Rouge (Cornalin) and Goron de Bovernier. Other international varieties are Chardonnay, Fendant(Chasselas), Gamay, Johannisberg (Silvaner), Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Premium wines of the house are a white wine made from 70-year-old Petite Arvine vines in some cases, as well as red wines made from Pinot Noir such as the barrique-aged and unfiltered "La Renommée Saint-Pierre" from vines with extremely low yields. Fine brandies such as apricot, apple and Williams pear brandy, as well as Marc (marc brandy) are also produced.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
