Fioletovy Ranny

The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Severny x Muscat d'Hamburg. Synonyms are Filetovyi Ranii, Fioletovyi Rani, Fioletovyi Ranny and Violet Precoce. Genes of Vitis amurensis and Vitis vinifera are present. The hybrid was crossed in Rostov Russia (then USSR) by the two breeders I. P. Potapenko and E. I. Zakharova. Plant variety protection was granted in 1965. The early-maturing vine is extremely frost-resistant to minus 27 °Celsius, resistant to the fungal diseases downy mildew and botrytis, but susceptible to powdery mildew. It was a crossing partner in the Russian new variety Kazachka. The variety Fioletovy Ranny produces red wines with a light muscat tone. It is also used for the production of table grapes and grape juice. In 2016, 50 hectares of vines were reported in Russia (Kym Anderson statistics). Small stocks are also said to exist in Ukraine.
