The winery is located in the municipality of Rossatz in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wachau. The traditional winery was founded in 1898 and taken over in 1993 by Josef "Huchenpepi" Fischer (who is also known as a professional fish breeder of the species Huchen) and his wife Ulrike. Since 2010, son Josef "Joe" Fischer has been responsible for the cellar and vineyard. The vineyards cover nine hectares of vines in the Frauenweingärten, Kirnberg, Kreuzberg, Steiger and Zanzl vineyards. They are planted with the Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The product range includes various wines marketed under the three regional brands Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd according to the guidelines of the Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus association. The "Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Privat" is also bottled in the Magnum (1.5 l) and Methusalem (6 l, 8 normal bottles) bulk bottles. Around 60,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
