Flot Rouge

The red grape variety (also Seibel 1020, Roi des Hybrides) is an interspecific new variety between Jaeger 70 (Munson) x Aramon Noir. It contains genes from Vitis aestivalis, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed by the French breeder Albert Seibel (1844-1936). The variety was a crossing partner in the new variety Colobel. The early-maturing variety is resistant to powdery and downy mildew. It produces colourful, rather low-acid red wines. The variety was quite widespread in France until the 1960s and occupied 3,500 hectares of vineyards. Due to the EU ban on hybrids, there was an extreme reduction. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
