The red grape variety (also Foça) originates from Turkey. The name means "Black of Foça", a county in the province of Izmir on the Aegean coast. The parentage is unknown. The medium-maturing vine is generally relatively resistant to diseases. It yields aromatic red wines. The variety, which is threatened with extinction, is cultivated in small quantities around Izmir. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
