Fondillón

An oxidatively matured, sherry-like red wine (also Fondillón de Alicante or only Alicante) from the Spanish DO area of Alicante; see there.

DO area on the Mediterranean coast Costa Blanca (white coast) in the Spanish region Valenciana. About 75 kilometres northeast of Alicante, on the peninsula of Dénia, is the later affiliated subzone La Marina Alta, where mainly sweet wines are produced. The vineyards of the Alicante Clásico subzone are located to a lesser extent around the port city of Alicante, but four-fifths of them are inland at an altitude of 500 to 650 metres above sea level.
