A port wine company Fonseca, Monteiro & Co was founded by Englishmen in the 18th century in the suburb of Vila Nova de Gaia Porto-Vila Nova de Gaia by Englishmen. It was then bought by the Portuguese Manuel Pedro Guimarãens in 1822. Since 1991, the company has been run by David Guimarãens, now the fifth generation of the family. For a long time, the company was called Guimarãens Vinhos, but in 1988 it was renamed to its current name. The property includes the three quintas Cruzeiro, Panascal and Santo António with a total of 130 hectares of vineyards, where port wine and other wines are produced. Among the top products of the house are the Vintage Port, the Ruby Reserve Bin 27 and the organically produced Terra Prima. Although Fonseca-Guimarãens was taken over by the multi Taylor's in 1948, the two houses are run independently in terms of products and styles. There is no connection to the Fonseca company of the same name in Azãteijo.
