Foreign alcohol

Designation for an alcohol that has not been produced from the fructose of the underlying fruit (grape, fruit, etc.) during fermentation or distillation. Either it is produced by enrichment (addition to unfinished wine with the purpose of increasing the alcohol content) or by sprit (addition of alcohol). The term spirit (also water) may only be used for spirits which have been produced exclusively from fruit-own sugar. See also under alcohol.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
