This red grape variety is a new cross between Frankenthal (Schiava Grossa) x Delizia di Vaprio. Synonyms are I.P. 245 and Pirovano 245. The cross was made in 1926 at the research centre in Rome by the breeder Alberto Piròvano (1884-1973). It is used as a winepress and table grape. In 2016, however, no stock was reported (Kym Anderson). However, Formosa is also a synonym for the two grape varieties Diagalves and Golden Queen.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
