Term for a low-alcohol red wine from northern Italy. It is made from the American varieties Clinton or Isabella of the species Vitis labrusca vinified. The name is derived from "Fragola" (German strawberry) and refers to the typical strawberry aroma (see below Foxton ). It is a simple one wine consumption or a wine-like drink. According to EU law, such wines may not be considered quality wine designated and also partially produced only for own consumption. Similar wines in other countries are named Americano or strawberry (Switzerland) and Uhudler (Austria).
