The red grape variety comes from France. Synonyms are Franc Noir de Cendrecourt, Franc Noir de Gy, Franc Noir de Jussey, Franc Noir de Venere, Gougenot, Gougenot Saône and Plant Jacquot. Around 1845 it was strongly propagated in the Haute-Saône department by the teacher Gougenot, from which part of the name and a synonym are derived. According to DNA analyses carried out in 1999, it is one of the many presumably natural crosses between Gouais Blanc x Pinot. The early maturing vine produces dark red wines. It is cultivated in small stocks in the Département Aube in the south of Champagne. In 2016, however, no stock was recorded (statistics Kym Anderson).
The Wine lexicon helps me to keep up to date and refresh my knowledge. Thank you for this Lexicon that will never end in terms of topicality! That's what makes it so exciting to come back often.
