Francavidda

The white grape variety comes from Italy. Synonyms are Bila Loza, Bioka, Drackinja, Francavilla, Plavka, Podbil and Zlatarica. It must not be confused with the Catarratto Bianco variety due to morphological similarities. The naame is a dialect version of Francavilla Fontana, an Apulian community. It is not known whether there is a connection to the Croatian variety Zlatarica Vrgorska (synonym Francavidda). The medium ripening vine is sensitive to fungal diseases and frost. It yields flowery white wines with moderate alcohol content. The variety is cultivated in the province of Brindisi (Puglia), where it is permitted in the DOC wine Ostuni. In 2016, two hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson).
