The winery is located in the municipality of Casteggio (province of Pavia) in the Italian region of Lombardy. The name originated in the early 19th century. It derives from "fraccia" (meaning "scree") and refers to the reddish clay soils. It was founded by Mario Odero towards the end of the First World War (1914-1918) and then expanded by his son Giorgio (1901-1983). The wine was delivered to the Italian royal court in the 1930s. Since the 1980s, the winery has been run by Margherita Radici Odero, with Giancarlo Scaglione as the responsible oenologist. In the 1990s the vinification was modernised and new vines were planted.

The vineyards cover a total of 34 hectares. They are planted with the red wine varieties Pinot Nero, Croatina, Merlot, Barbera and Uva Rara, and the white wine varieties Riesling Renano (Rhine Riesling) and Chardonnay. Direct cultivation is carried out with sparing use of organic fertiliser. During the selective manual harvest, from the end of August to the beginning of October, great importance is attached to the physiological ripeness of the grapes. The red wines are aged in barriques as well as in larger barrels up to 25 hectolitres. They mature between 6 and 18 months, depending on the type of wine. The product range includes various DOC red and white wines Oltrepò Pavese and IGT wines. We also produce bottle-fermented sparkling wines with up to 36 months of yeast aging and grappa.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
