The winery is located in the municipality of Rossatz in the wine-growing region of Wachau on the right bank of the Danube (Lower Austria). The traditional family has been growing grapes here for 150 years. The foundation stone for the business was laid by Heinz and Florentine Frischengruber from the 1980s onwards. After graduating from the viticultural school Klosterneuburg and practical stays in South Africa, the Palatinate and New Zealand, it has been run by son Georg since 2011. The vineyards cover ten hectares of vineyards in the Frauenweingärten, Goldberg, Kirnberg, Kellerweingärten, Kreuzberg, Pointen, Steiger and Zanzl vineyards. They are planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltlinerä, Riesling,Pinot Blanc and Muskateller.
In the Kreuzberg vineyard, Georg Frischengruber and his brother Heinz Frischengruber (cellar master at Domäne Wachau) cultivate "Grandma's vineyard", an old vineyard with Grüner Veltliner vines that are over 60 years old. All areas are cultivated in an environmentally friendly, sustainable manner, without the use of insecticides and herbicides (glyphosates). The vines are grown in classical high culture. Only physiologically ripe and healthy grapes are harvested by hand. The majority of the wines are fermented spontaneously and stored for a long time on the fine lees. The winery is a member of Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus. All wines are produced in the three brands of this association.
