Furner

The red grape variety comes from Italy. Synonyms are Furner Hottler and Furner Hottlinger. The parentage (parenthood) is unknown. The variety was mentioned by the South Tyrolean viticulture expert Edmund Mach (1846-1901) in 1894 in his work "Der Weinbau und die Weine Deutschtirols". In the 19th century it was widely spread in the Eisack Valley in South Tyrol. The medium-late ripening vine produces ruby-red, fruity red wines with soft tannins and aromas of cherries and berries. It is now only cultivated by a few winegrowers. In 2016, however, no stocks were identified (Kym Anderson).

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
