DOC area for red wine in the Italian region of Piedmont. The zone includes the municipalities of Gabiano and Moncestino on the south bank of the Po River in the province of Alessandria. The wine is made from Barbera (90-95%), and Freisa and/or Grignolino (5-10%). There is also a longer-aged Riserva.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
