The white grape variety originates from Greece. Synonyms are Gaidouricha, Gaidouriha, Gaydura (Turkey) and Guydourina. The parentage is unknown. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2011, there is a parent-offspring relationship with the variety Assyrtiko. The early-maturing, low-yielding vine is relatively resistant to vine diseases. It produces aromatic white wines with moderate acidity and a light tannin flavour. The variety originates from the Cyclades, where it is cultivated in small quantities on Santorini. There are also stocks in the province of Urla near the coast in the far west of Turkey. However, no stock was recorded in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
