Gaillard 2

The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between (Othello x Rupestris) x Noah. Synonyms are Noa and Noah Noir. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in France in 1885 by the private breeder Fernand Gaillard. The variety was a crossing partner in the three new varieties Chancellor, Chelois and Soleil Blanc. It is grown in tiny quantities in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle (Lorraine). In 2016, only 0.1 hectares of vines were reported (Kym Anderson statistics).
