The red grape variety comes from France, Synonyms are Barvarica, Fréaux, Friaux, Gamay Fréaux, Gamay de Fréaux, Gamay Teinturier, Gamay Teinturier Crni, Game Barvarica, Teinturier de Couchey, Teinturier Fréaux and Violet de Saint-Denis Couchey in the Burgundian area Cote d'Or discovered. It is probably one mutation of the variety Gamay (and not as previously suspected by Gamay complexion de Bouze ). The early ripening vine is susceptible to Botrytis. Black spots disease, Wood diseases and yellowing, It produces vivid red wines and is considered teinturier (Dye grape) used. In the 1950s, it was in Burgundy still 1,700 hectares planted. In 2010 were in France (55 ha) and Moldova (55 ha) but only small cultivated areas are shown.
