The red grape variety comes from Italy, The name means after the red grape stems " Rebhuhnfuß ". Synonyms are Gamba 'd Pernis, Gamba di Pernice, Neretto degli Alteni, Pernice, Pernicine Nell'Albese. The old variety was mentioned in 1787 by Nuvolone Pergamo, Conte di Scandaluzza. It will be in Piedmont under Gamba di Pernice in the province Asti (DOC area Calosso ), as well as grown under Neretto degli Alteni in the province of Cuneo. The vine produces purple, spicy red wines with aromas pepper and green paprika, In 2010, only one hectare was designated under the name Gamba Rossa (Statistics Kym Anderson ).
