Common name in the USA for the five leading US wine brands or producers Gallo, Almaden Vineyards, Paul Masson, Inglenook Winery and Taylor California Cellars. The latter four are owned by the multinational Constellation Brands. Branded wines are produced under these names, but also other alcoholic beverages such as sparkling wines, distillates and liqueurs. The wines are mostly bottled in larger containers such as bag-in-boxes of up to 5 litres, as well as 1.5-litre, 3-litre and 4-litre bottles. The annual production quantities in bottles/containers are around 100 million.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
