The French breeder Victor Ganzin created a number of in the last third of the 19th century rootstocks, Some of them were crosses between Aramon x Rupestris Ganzin (American wild grape of the species Vitis rupestris ). The Aramon Rupestris Ganzin No. 1 (also Ganzin 1, AxR 1, ARG 1), which was created in 1879, achieved doubtful fame. Because of insufficient Phylloxera resistance this document caused major problems in California in the 1980s (see under AxR 1 ). Through a cross between Aramon Rupestris - Ganzin No. 4 x Alicante Henri Bouschet is the variety Alicante Ganzin emerged.
