The French breeder Victor Ganzin created in the last third of the 19th century a series of rootstocks, Some of them were crosses between Aramon x Rupestris Ganzin (American wild grape of the species Vitis rupestris ). Doubtful celebrity acquired in 1879 Aramon Rupestris Ganzin No. 1 (also Ganzin 1, AxR 1, ARG 1). Due to insufficient Phylloxera resistance led this document in the 1980s in California to major problems (see under AxR 1 ). Through a cross between Aramon Rupestris - Ganzin No. 4 x Alicante Henri Bouschet is the sort Alicante Ganzin emerged.
