The white grape variety originates from Armenia or Azerbaijan; the name means "fat tail". Synonyms are Alani Chagog, Alivoruk, Garand Mac, Garan Dmak, Garann Tmak, Dik Chardji, Dick Hardzy, Dick Kharjy, Dik Hardji, Dik Hardzhi, Dik Kharadji, Dik Khardji, Garan Dmak and Sansar Xerci. The variety was a crossing partner in the new variety Nerkeni. The medium to late maturing vine is resistant to frost and downy mildew, but susceptible to powdery mildew. It is grown in western Armenia, mainly in the province of Armavir, and is used as a blend in simple white and dessert wines, as well as for the production of table grapes, grape juice and distillates. Smaller stocks are also said to exist in Ukraine. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
