garnet

Color name for one red wine as part of a wine address, It is derived from the pomegranate imported from Carthage, which the Romans called "Malum granatum" (granatus = core-rich) or "Malum punicum" (Phoenician apple) after the grains it contains. The Latin adjective "puniceus" means garnet red and denotes the typical one colour of the pomegranate. It is a lighter red with bluish or purple hues. Older wines in particular have this color.
