Garofanata

The white grape variety originates from Italy. The almost extinct variety was discovered and revitalised in an old vineyard in the municipality of Corinaldo (Marche, province of Ancona). It was considered a Muscat Blanc variety by the breeder Bruno Bruni in 1962 and named Garofalata. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2021, it is a presumably natural cross between Famoso Marchigiano x unknown father variety. However, this is based on only 12 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). The late-maturing vine is generally resistant. It is grown in small quantities in the Marche region. However, no stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
