Garrido Fino

The white grape variety originates from Spain. Synonyms are Charrido Fino, Garrido, Garrido Fino de Villanueva, Garridos, Garrio Fino, Monstruosa and Palomino Garrio. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2018, she comes from a presumably natural cross between Garriodo Macho x unknown partner. It was a crossing partner of the two new crosses Caballete and Monja. The medium to late ripening vine is susceptible to botrytis and both powdery mildews. It produces neutral-tasting white wines with fresh acidity and rather moderate alcohol content. The variety is cultivated in southwestern Andalusia in the Condado de Huelva area and is mostly used in blends with the Zalema variety in sweet wines. In 2016, 54 hectares of vines were reported (Kym Anderson statistics).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
