Gebirgsaufschießen

Old winery tradition in Austria, where the beginning of the vintage was celebrated with firecrackers. So the wine mountains (the hills) are opened up, so to speak. In the past, there was a common reading start valid for a certain area, which was officially announced. This became the valid one at the beginning of the grape ripening Vintage spell (that is, the closure of the vineyards) for the harvest or for the workers. The traditional custom is still used for example in Gumpoldskirchen maintained in Lower Austria. See also under Customs in viticulture,
