Gebling

Riede (site) in the municipality of Rohrendorf near Krems in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Kremstal. It was already mentioned in a document in 1284. The name derives either from the colour of the soil or (as in the French area Côte d'Or) from the yellow autumn leaves. The steep south-facing vineyards have a slope of up to 45%. The terraces, up to 700 metres long, usually consist of four to eight rows of vines each. The soil consists of calcareous conglomerate weathered rock with a loess overlay. It is one of the largest contiguous loess sites in Europe. The white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Frühroter Veltliner and Chardonnay are cultivated here, as well as the red wine variety Pinot Noir. Shares in the vineyard are held, for example, by the wineries Berger Erich, Bründlmayer Josef & Philipp, Buchegger Walter, Felsner Manfred, Moser Hermann, Moser Sepp, Thiery-Weber, Vorspannhof Mayr, Walzer Martin, Weingut Stadt Krems and Zöhrer Anton..
