Producer description of "Tarucco - Geraci Azienda Agricola"

The winery "Tarucco - Azienda Agricola Geraci" is located in Bisacquino - Contessa Entellina in the province of Palermo in Sicily. Here was once a castle built in the 14th century called "Feudo Tarucco". In the 18th century a country house with a vineyard called "Case Langer" was built. In 1920 the property was acquired by the Geraci family. Today it is managed by Antonella and Stefano Geraci. The vineyards cover 15 hectares of vineyards on sandy, clayey and calcareous soils at an altitude of between 400 and 480 metres above sea level. The terroir was named "Tarucco" after the former castle. The white wine varieties Chardonnay, Grecanico Dorato(Garganega) and Grillo are cultivated here, as well as the red wine varieties Alicante Henri Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Nero d'Avola and Syrah. On three hectares there are olive trees for the production of olive oil.

Oenologist Donato Lanati from Piedmont is responsible for the vinification. Premium wines are the Tarucco Peralta (Nero d'Avola, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon), Tarucco Alicante, Tarucco Nero d'Avola and Tarucco Syrah, each aged for 12 months in barriques, as well as the cuvées Tarucco Gioeni (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante Bouschet) and Tarucco Colonna (Grillo, Greco Dorato, Chardonnay). The label is decorated with a woman enthroned on the Trinacria (ancient name of Sicily). Around 120,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
