German Wine Academy

The DWA, based in Mainz in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, was founded in 1977 and has since established itself as an important mediator between science, industry and consumers. According to its own definition and objectives, it strives "to convey an understanding of wine that defines it as a vital cultural asset rich in tradition, based on the historical foundation that has grown over thousands of years". The aim is to provide information on the responsible use of wine as a health-giving luxury food. In this regard, scientific data on the topic of "wine and health" is collected worldwide, evaluated and documented in a database. Own medical and nutritional studies are planned, coordinated and financially supported according to the recommendations of the scientific advisory board. With the help of scientific lecture events and symposia, primarily doctors and other responsible persons in the health sector are competently informed about the topic of "wine, enjoyment and health". Cooperation partners include the two institutions DWF (German Wine Fund) and DWI (German Wine Institute).
