It can be voluntary on the Official test number Be requested and will by DLG (German Agricultural Society) awarded. The wine review is in the form of a neutral blind tasting made by at least three experienced taster who are very familiar with the respective German growing areas. The seal shows the Roman wine god Bacchus with a grape in his hand. In order to win this distinction, which has been valid since 1984, the wines must reach at least 2.5 points out of a maximum of 5 points (compared to 1.5 points for quality wines ). In addition, the wine operation is checked by professionals.

If the result is positive, the wine seal is awarded in three colors. The yellow seal is for dry Wines (max 9 g / l residual sugar ), the green seal for semi-dry Wines (max 18 g / l) and the red seal for lovely Wines (max 20 g / l) awarded. Wines that meet the requirements of special regional quality programs, can be awarded by the DLG with the "German Wine Seal Selection". For diabetics wine There used to be information about the values of suitable wines on the back label. The legal basis was withdrawn by an EU regulation from 1.7.2007 (the term diabetic wine may no longer be used).
