germanic wine law

Term for the (former) customary practice in Germany, Austria and also some Eastern countries to emphasize the variety denomination with regard to wine quality. This is in contrast to the Romanesque wine law, where the origin of the wine is in the foreground. See also Origin and Wine Law.
