The winery in the Hungarian region Eger was founded in 1993 by the Hungarian oenologist Tibor Gál (1958-2005) when he returned home after a long stay in Italy. The partners were Marchese Nicolo Incisa della Rochetta, the producer of the Sassicaia, as well as Burkard Bovensiepen, the owner of Alpina-BMW. From Gál, Incisa and Alpina resulted the company name "GIA". In 2002, following the departure of Alpina, the US company Kobrand Corporation (a shareholder in one of the largest US wine trading companies).
