Glaetzer

The winery "Glaetzer Wines" is located in Tanunda in the Barossa state of South Australia. The family from Brandenburg (Germany) settled here in 1888. They were among the first vine growers here. Today the winery is managed by Colin and Judith Glaetzer. Furthermore, twin brother John and three sons of the couple and their wives work in the family business. The figurehead of the house is the "Amon-Ra Shiraz", named after the supreme Egyptian deity, made from over 100-year-old vines from the famous Ebenezer vineyard in the northwest of the Barossa Valley. The ancient vines are bush trained and deeply rooted, so that in most cases no artificial is necessary. The red wine, with 15% vol. alcohol, matures for 15 months on the lees in new barriques (40% French (Allier) and 60% American) or . It is bottled unfiltered. Other wines from also partly old vines are "Shiraz", "Godolphin" (Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz), "Bishop Shiraz" (maiden name of Judith Glaetzer) and "Wallace" (Grenache Noir, Shiraz).
