GM

Short name (GH = Geisenheim) followed by a number and, if applicable, a sub-number for the grape varieties or breeding material bred at the Weinbauinstitut Geisenheim (Rheingau). Some of the well over one hundred GM varieties were then given later sounding names. See for example under GM 6493 and GM 6494.
