The winery is located in the community of Schweigen-Rechtenbach (area Südliche Weinstraße) in the German wine-growing region Pfalz. It is managed by Hans Gnägy, who is supported by his son Michael, who was trained in Weinsberg. The vineyards cover 14.5 hectares of vineyards in the Sonnenberg location directly on the French border with Alsace. They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner,Pinot Blanc, PinotGris, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Scheurebe, Kerner and Auxerrois, as well as the red wine varieties Blauer Portugieser,Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, St. Laurent, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. A controlled natural, environmentally friendly winegrowing is consistently practised. The grapes are processed very gently. The fermentation and ageing of the white wines takes place in stainless steel tanks. After the mash fermentation, the red wines are mainly matured in large wooden barrels. Fine spirits, vinegar, grape seed oil and grape juice are also produced.
As honorary chairman of the Domäne Wachau, it is the easiest and quickest way for me to access the wein.plus encyclopaedia when I have questions. The certainty of receiving well-founded and up-to-date information here makes it an indispensable guide.
