Göncer barrel

Historical barrel type or unit of measurement from Hungary with a volume of between 150 and 400 litres. The type formerly used for Tokaj had a capacity of between 136 and 145 litres. The Hungarian name Gönci hordó (Gönc barrel, hordó = barrel) is derived from the village of Gönc in the Zemplén Mountains, where these barrels used to be produced. However, this type of barrel is hardly used today. The smallest Hungarian cask is called Àntalag with a volume of 50 to 75 litres and the largest is the Szerednye cask (formerly also called Kassaier or Kaschauer), also named after a place, with 200 to 220 litres, which is mainly used today for Tokay.
