Goron de Bovernier

The red grape variety originates from the border region Italy/Switzerland. Synonyms are Goron, Rouge de Bovernier and Rotgurra. The name derives from the Valais commune of Bovernier in the district of Martigny. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2003, it comes from a presumably natural cross between Cornalin du Valais (Rouge du Pays) x unknown variety. In Switzerland, it belongs to the group of old growths. There is also a variety called Goron Rouge (Rother Goron) with reddish berries. The medium-late ripening vine produces an aromatic, flowery red wine. It is cultivated in small quantities in the Swiss canton of Valais. However, no stock was recorded in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
