Goruli Mtsvane

The white grape variety originates from Georgia; the name means something like "Greens of Gori". Synonyms are Gorouli Mtzvane, Goruli Mcvané, Kvishkhuri, Mtsvane, Mtsvané, Mtsvane Goruli, Suramula and Tetrpotola. Despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities, it should not be confused with the variety Mtsvane Kakhuri. According to an unverifiable hypothesis, it was allegedly mentioned as early as the 5th century. The late-maturing vine is resistant to downy mildew, but susceptible to powdery mildew. It yields aromatic, acidic white wines. The variety is mainly cultivated in the regions of Carthia and Kakheti, where it is also used for sparkling wines and fortified wines. In 2016, 287 hectares of vines were declared (Statisdtik Kym Anderson).
