Grangehurst

The winery is located in the South African wine-growing district Stellenbosch at the foot of the Helderberg. It was founded in 1992 by Jeremy Walker, who previously studied oenology and had practice on some wine farms. The sports-loving newcomer converted his squash hall and tennis court into a winery. There are no (yet) own vineyards (status 2004), but the grapes are sourced from around 13 hectares of vineyards. However, 15 hectares of land were bought, which are to be planted with the best varieties. In just a few years, Walker has become the leading red wine specialist in South Africa. The premium wines include the two pure red wines from Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage, as well as a red wine blend from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. They are all aged in French barriques. Around 100,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
