The "Groszer Wein Gmbh" was founded in 2012 as the successor to the former producer association "Vinum Ferreum" ( German shooters
) in the Austrian DAC area Eisenberg
(Südburgenland) founded. The business is run by Matthias Krön and Markus Bach, who is also responsible as cellar master. The winery is located in the municipality of Burg at the foot of the Eisenberg. The business objective was defined "to ensure the continued existence of the best locations on the Eisenberg, to work out the very special personality of the Eisenberg and to make it accessible to a demanding audience all over the world"
. The vineyards cover 16 hectares of vineyards on the Eisenberg, where viticulture was practiced by the Romans at least 2,000 years ago.
The areas are located in the vineyards Szápari
(Slate), Croatian reed, Saybritz (rock brown earth = mixture of stone and clay), lobster ditch and Rotoler (clay). They are planted with the red varieties Blaufränkisch
, Blauburgunder, Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, as well as with the white varieties Welschriesling, Grüner Veltliner, Muskateller and Weißburgunder. The quality criteria are lower earnings
through very old vines, some over 65 years old, and selective hand-picking in 20-kilogram boxes to ensure that only ripe and healthy grapes are harvested.
The musts will spontaneous
fermented and aged in wooden barrels with 500 and 1,600 liters volume with the aim of a harmonious relationship between minerality and acidity. The product range includes the following wines: a pure Blaufränkisch Eisenberg DAC
, a red wine cuvée (Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot), a white wine cuvée (Welschriesling, Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, Muskateller) Mixed sentence
, as well as Blaufränkisch
wines from the Saybritz and Szápari vineyards. As a sign of authenticity, the wines are only filled in 1 liter bottles, because these were the classic container for wines from southern Burgenland until the 1970s.
